In December, Canhelp received a generous donation that enabled us to build our first ever Cambodia English Centre (CEC).
School life in Cambodia differs to Nepal in one important respect. Almost all poor Cambodian children attend government schools and English is not part of their curriculum.
In order for children to learn English, they need to attend out of school hours English classes. The cost of attending such classes is beyond the reach of most children.
Our English Centre will attract children from 3 nearby government schools, and there will be 3 classes a day. Som Sim, our Cambodian manager, will take the classes. Each child will pay a small fee of $0.50 a month to attend, and a generous donor will fund the remaining costs to maintain the centre.
