A new IT education centre opens in Nepal

Nepal Education CentreOn 25th April 2014 Canhelp officially opened its 4th Education Centre. In 2013 Canhelp received a sizable donation and the donor (who wishes to remain anonymous) requested the money be spent building a new education centre in Nepal.

The decision was made to build the Dev Bhumi IT Education Centre at Baluwa village, about a 2 hour drive east of Kathmandu. The Centre was jointly funded by Canhelp and Rotary Nepal. Once again, the Aussie Embassy in Nepal was very supportive and our Ambassador assigned Mr Stephen Rowe, First Secretary of the Embassy, to officially open the Centre.

Baluwa village is made up of mainly the Danuwar Caste who earn a living through agriculture. The area is economically disadvantaged and public infrastructure is poor.
The warmness of the locals more than made up for any hardships we endured. This takes our total number of IT centres to 4, and a 5th centre is in the planning.

NFEC

Nolan Centre

Official opening of the Nolan Family Education Centre (NFEC) in September 2012

In September 2012, the Nolan Family Education Centre (NFEC) officially opened. The centre has been modelled on Canhelp’s first Education Centre DACMEC, which opened in Kathmandu on July 2011.

NFEC exists today because of the extraordinary generosity of Dr Stephen and Kathryn Nolan of Sydney. It is Impossible to convey via words how much of a positive impact this Centre will have on the children of the Bhaktapur region of Nepal.

Canhelp have completed the DACMEC resource centre in Kathmandu. Teachers in the

local area will soon have resources to better prepare lessons and educate themselves.

A big thank you to our corporate partners who donate books for our teacher resource centre.

Opening of DACMEC 2

The official opening took place on 11th June and our special guest of honour was Australia’s Ambassador to Nepal, his Excellency Mr Glenn White and Mrs Marianne White. DACMEC2 is located at Naubise, about a 1 hour’s drive west of Kathmandu and along arguably one of Nepal’s busiest and most dangerous roads.

Naubise has a few schools and DACMEC2 will mainly serve those schools. Apart from DACMEC2, there are no computers available at Naubise schools.
